چکیده

This paper presents a coding scheme for the Gaussian wiretap channel based on low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. The messages are transmitted over punctured bits to hide data from eavesdroppers. It is shown that this method is asymptotically effective in the sense that it yields a BER very close to 0.5 for an eavesdropper whose SNR is lower than the threshold SNRE , even if the eavesdropper has the ability to use a bitwise MAP decoder. Such codes also achieve high reliability for the friendly parties provided they have an SNR above a second threshold SNRB . It is shown how asymptotically optimized LDPC codes can be designed with differential evolution where the goal is to achieve high reliability between friendly parties and security against a passive eavesdropper while keeping the security gap SNRB/SNRE as small as possible. The proposed coding scheme is applicable at finite block lengths and can be combined with existing cryptographic schemes to deliver improved data security by taking advantage of the stochastic nature of many communication channels.

Improving the Rao-Nam secret key cryptosystem using regular EDF-QC-LDPC codes

This paper proposes an efficient joint secret key encryption-channel coding cryptosystem, based on regular Extended Difference Family Quasi-Cyclic Low-Density Parity-Check codes. The key length of the proposed cryptosystem decreases up to 85 percent using a new efficient compression algorithm. Cryptanalytic methods show that the improved cryptosystem has a significant security advantage over Ra...

Quantization Aspects in LDPC Key Reconciliation for Physical Layer Security

For physical-layer security, key reconciliation procedures are needed to correct key differences that can arise as a consequence of independent noise at the two ends of a reciprocal link. We assume either a random link in a mobile environment or use reconfigurable antenna elements to randomize the channel, such that it allows for frequent key generation. We apply LDPC codes to reconcile the key...

Joint Schemes for Physical Layer Security and Error Correction

The major challenges facing resource constraint wireless devices are error resilience, security and speed. Even though early work showed the existence of secrecy-achieving codes, security and data reliability are still seen as separate processes in contemporary communication system. Security is therefore confined to higher layers of the protocol stack. This lack of any security measure at the w...

LDPC Codes in the McEliece Cryptosystem: Attacks and Countermeasures

The McEliece cryptosystem is a public-key cryptosystem based on coding theory that has successfully resisted cryptanalysis for thirty years. The original version, based on Goppa codes, is able to guarantee a high level of security, and is faster than competing solutions, like RSA. Despite this, it has been rarely considered in practical applications, due to two major drawbacks: i) large size of...
